About WSPA
The WSPA stands for World Society For The Protection Of Animals, which is an international animal welfare organization, active in over 145 countries with around 740 groups. WSPA is formed in 1981 by combining the two animal welfare organizations in that one is World Federation for the protection of animals founded in 1953, and other is International Society for the protection of animals founded in 1959. The main aim of WSPA is to protect and relive the animals which are suffering and to prevent cruelty to animals.
It also promote the human education programmes to tell the laws and enforcement structures how the animals are legally protected. WSPA works against the cruel treatment and abuse of animals such as bullfighting, bear baiting, and dancing, whaling, keeping and capturing of dolphins, cruelty associated with the trading and raising of dogs and cats for food in asia. W S P A was not successful in preventing all those across the world, but bear baiting was completely stopped in pakistan.
WSPA wildlife Programme:
WSPA’s animal welfare programmes include a mix of direct fieldwork, campaigning, education and training, and member society development. It's wildlife programme aims the three main areas. One is inhumane killing of animals for meat or products. Second is suffering animals captured for live trading. Third is the welfare aniomals are kept in captivity. WSPA aims to influence the decisions which affects the wildlife by key inter governmental bodies like Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and the International Whaling Commission (IWC).
The Governments of Kenya, India, Philippines, Costa Rica and the Czech Republic are officially diclare their support to programmes conducted by WSPA and more countries declares very soon. It has taken an early lead in many disaster situations and brought relief to thousands of animal victims. For the farm animal welfare problem WSPA launches farmwatch compaign. Working with groups across the globe stops the spread of intesive factory framing, transportation and inhumane animal slaughter.
